We work to enrich our communities with endowments, grants and leadership.
The Sarnia Community Foundation works with all individuals, groups of people, charities, and companies who have an interest in making the community a better place to live, work and play No gift is too small to do great things in our community today, tomorrow , forever!
We work with donors to establish and maintain endowment funds. Each fund at SCF is unique and reflects the interests of the individuals, company or agency who have chosen to make a lasting difference in our community These funds are invested and the income we are able to earn on the investment is used to make grants, provide scholarships or to initiate a community programme.
We make grants to projects and programmes of registered charities and other eligible recipients. Grants are made on an annual basis through our Community Impact Program or through our donor advised funds. SCF also manages a number of scholarships and short term community projects like the building of the Dow Centre for Youth.
We support leadership initiatives in the community by providing a platform for emerging ideas, assisting community agencies with expertise in finance and policy development while promoting the not for profit or social impact sector. We aim to respond to community issues and needs now and in the future.
Since our first day of operation in 1983 we have made an impact on over 135 local organizations and thousands of people in the community. We've returned over 4 million dollars through grants and projects throughout Lambton County.
Our overall stewardship objective is to maintain the purchasing power of dollars and the funds entrusted to us. The SCF invests its assets carefully and works to preserve the capital using the income we to fund projects and programmes. Every dollar is carefully accounted for so as to maximize return to the community. We receive no government funding for operations.
As a public foundation,we are responsive to the communities we serve. Our policies and financial statements are available to the community and can be obtained by calling the Foundation office. You can also view our annual report to the Canada Revenue Agency.
SCF does not use third party professional fundraisers and we respect our donor's wishes when it comes to publication of names and the collection of personal information.We do not sell, trade or lease our donor lists. Since 2013, SCF has been accredited by Imagine Canada. This accreditation requires us to meet or exceed 73 standards in Governance, Fund Raising , Staff Management, Financial Accountability &Transparency and Volunteer Involvement. We have demonstrated compliance with the standards on a consistent basis since our original application and are proud to display the Imagine Canada trustmark.
