Halcovitch’s Outdoor Learning Classroom

(Lovingly known as “THE HOLC”)

Carol-Lee Halcovitch, died unexpectedly in March 2020. She was a grade 1/2 teacher who valued outdoor education and hands on science and one that always had her students learning and discovering through hands-on experiments.  In her memory the staff of High Park School hare working to create an outdoor classroom in her memory.

Carol-Lee believed in accessibility for all students. As well, she encouraged positive relationships between staff, students, and parents, from Kindergarten to Grade 8. The HOLC will be an outdoor classroom that can be used to teach curriculum content as well as for mindfulness activities. There will be designated spaces for small and large group instruction, a community garden, an outdoor little library as well and community green space.

The grounds of High Park School are currently underdeveloped making it the ideal location for this new learning space. By supporting the HOLC Fund at SCF, you will be supporting youth in our community in their educational journey along with their teachers and families. The redeveloped space builds on the inclusiveness of High Park community and creates a permanent legacy for a much loved teacher and colleague.
